Diwali (or Deepavali) is the Hindu festival of lights. Diwali symbolises the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance". Diwali is celebrated during the Hindu lunisolar months of Ashvin and Kartika. Diwali comes from comes from the Sanskrit word dīpāvali and means row/series of lights.
Diwali is connected to various religious events, deities and personalities. One such is attributed to Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity / wealth chose and wed Sri Vishnu on this day. It is also considered as the day Rama returned to his kingdom in Ayodhya with his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana after defeating the demon king Ravana. Diwali is also considered as the day Lord Krishna overcame and destroyed the evil demon king Narakasura.
Diwali at our Temple includes Special Archana on Dhanteras (11/10) and Naraka Chaturdasi (11/11). Diwali Celebrations on Nov 12th starts at 5:30PM with colorful fireworks that our children will enjoy. Devotees will the get to perform Sowbhagya Diya Puja for Goddess Lakshmi. As a 1st at our Temple, Pujarjijis plan to have a colorful Bangle Alankara for Goddess Lakshmi, which sponsors can also take home. This will be followed by Cultural Programs by our children.
